Martin spoke about the developments in Gaza and voiced concern over the mounting tension in the region, especially in Lebanon. He said Ireland wants an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and a POW swap so that humanitarian aid can be delivered to the people of Gaza. Araghchi for his part thanked the Irish foreign minister for his congratulations and noted that the two countries can expand their relations more than ever before based on mutual respect. Araghchi said this goal is at hand. Referring to the developments in West Asia, the Iranian foreign minister underlined the need for an immediate cessation of war against the people of Gaza. He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran supports any agreement accepted by Hamas and the Palestinian people. Araghchi underscored that the Islamic Republic of Iran seeks detente in the region but Netanyahu and the Zionist regime are bent on intensifying violence and spreading it across the region, including to the West Bank. Therefore, all sides must make an immediate and effective effort to stop the violence in Gaza. The Iranian and Irish foreign ministers further discussed issues of mutual interest including the sanctions removal talks and the Ukraine crisis. They urged the need for both sides to continue their political consultations.
